Reaping the benefits of Ramadhan

Some of the wisdoms and lessons that we can learn from Ramdhan are:
Gaining Taqwa
Fasting helps us to attain taqwa since it helps prevent many sins that one is prone to.
Rasulullah s.a.w. said:
"Fasting is a shield with which the servant protects himself from the Fire."
Seeking Nearness to Allah
This is achieve by performing one’s obligatory duties, tarawih prayers, attending gathering of knowledge, reciting and reflecting al Qur’an and also striving in those actions that will draws the heart to be nearer to Allah s.w.t. and gain His forgiveness.
Rasulullah s.a.w. said:
"Whosoever reaches the month of Ramadhan and does not have his sins forgiven, and so enters the fire, then may Allah distance him."
Acquiring Patience
Fasting makes one learns self restraint and patience as we withstands from all bodily need such as food and drinks from dawn to dusk. Patience helps one to strengthen his resolve to worship Allah s.w.t. and manage to subdue the soul’s ill temperament too.
Ibn `Abdul-Barr r.a.– said:
"What is meant by the month of Patience is the month of Ramadan …So fasting is called patience because it restrains the soul from eating drinking, conjugal relations and sexual desires."
Cultivating Good Manners
Rasulullah s.a.w.:said:
"Fasting is not merely abstaining from eating and drinking. Rather, it is also abstaining from ignorant and indecent speech. So if anyone abuses or behaves ignorantly with you, then say: I am fasting, I am fasting."
Therefore, we can be saved from nullifying the rewards of our fasting. Moreover, we did not want to belong to those who fast but receives nothing from it, except hunger and thirst.
Sensing Muslim Unity
Rasulullah s.a.w.:said:
"Fast when they fast, and break your fast when they break their fast, and sacrifice the day they sacrifice."
In this blessed month, Muslims all over the world break fast at about the same time and more worship together in the mosques. We also feel and experiences how is to be without food and drink just like those who are needy and hungry who are forced to go without them. Thus, we can sense an increase feeling of being a single Ummah.
Let us seek His Blessing to grant us to be a better person.
